Chess Notes (December 2009)
Here is a long overdue CWCC Chess Notes from your club president. The 2009-2010 chess season has been in swing for quite some time now. The Pawn Eater tournaments are back on a monthly basis. You can see the schedule on the RI Chess Association website. Click on the tournament link, then adult tournaments. All RICA tournaments now have on-line registration. This type of registration saves time and money. Players who register online get a discount from the at-the-door entry price.
I encourage all CWCC club members to give a Pawn Eater tournament a try if they havent yet participated. The format of four rounds at Game/60 provides a full day of quality chess with guaranteed competition near your playing level.
2010 CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP INFORMATION:
The CWCC board of directors have agreed to run the 2010 Club Championship with the same format as last year.
The Club Championship will be conducted as follows:

2. The dates will be Jan 5 through February 24, 2010. (Every Tuesday in Jan/Feb)
3. Up to two 1/2 point advance byes are available to any participant. No advance byes may be requested
after the 4th round of play.
4. To qualify to play, a participant must be a club member in good standing that has played a minimum of
eight (8) rated club games in the past year. (Jan-Dec 2009)
5. The prize structure will be similar to last year. (1st-2nd-3rd and 1st-2nd-3rd Under Median)
We encourage everyone eligible to play. Everyone has a chance at prizes and possible bragging rights as the next Cranston-Warwick Chess Club Champion!
2010 Annual Club Meeting:
We plan on holding the annual club meeting as required by the chess club bylaws on the Tuesday night following the completion of the club championship. (March 2, 2010) March is a month with 5 Tuesdays. We normally hold the casual nights on the 5th Tuesday of the month. As the Club Championship will have just been completed, it will be a better time to hold the annual meeting the week immediately following the completion of the club championship. All club business can be done without having to rush getting things ready before a tournament begins. The March Monthly tournament will start the following week. (March 9, 2010)
The following are the major items to be covered in the annual meeting:
1. Treasurer's Report
2. Elections for officer positions
3. Miscellaneous old/new business
Please come to the meeting and provide input, suggestions and ideas. This is YOUR chess club.
If you believe improvements can be made, we value your input and opinions. So mark your calendars for MARCH 2, 2010 for the Annual Club Meeting.
Good Chess!
Frank Vogel
